Add another one to your Record Store Day 2024 Must-Have list: Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan’s respective covers of “Stick Season” and “lacy” recorded for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge are being pressed to 7-inch vinyl for the April 20th event.
Rodrigo performed her take on Kahan’s breakout 2022 hit during her Live Lounge session at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery last October. A month later, Kahan was in BBC Radio 1’s studio and decided to return the favor with his version of Rodrigo’s GUTS cut. Now, the two covers will be presented as a double-sided single limited to 15,000 pressings on colored vinyl for RSD 2024.

At the time of his own session, Kahan said Rodrigo’s cover left him “honored” and “inspired.” He chose to take a crack at “lacy” because it “highlights what I love so much about Olivia’s lyricism; it’s very dynamic and it just makes you feel an emotion we’ve all experienced before.” The folk singer added that he’d “love to write a song with” the pop star, so fingers crossed this isn’t the last collaborative release we see from the pair.

“Stick Season”/”lacy” joins an exciting catalog of Record Store Day releases that includes the South Park 25th anniversary concert, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benante teaming with Dave Grohl for a Bad Brains cover, a Talking Heads 2xLP live album capturing their November 1977 performance at WCOZ, an early version of David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars featuring four songs not on the original album, and plenty more. We pulled some highlights from this year’s batch, and you can find the full release list at RSD’s website.
Rodrigo is set to launch her 75-date “GUTS World Tour” in just a few days, and you can snag last-minute tickets here. Meanwhile, Kahan recently released the 30-track Stick Season (Forever), an expended version of his smash LP that includes new song “Forever” and “remix” collaborations with artists like Brandi Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov. His own “We’ll All Be Here Forever World Tour” is about to wrap its European leg, with North American dates beginning March 2nd. Tickets to all his shows are available here.
