Next weekend, Under the Radar makes its annual pilgrimage to the Dutch city of Leiden for its 14th edition Peel slowly and see. Taking place on the first weekend of March (Friday 1 and Saturday 2), Peel Slowly And See prides itself as a festival where “curious music fans explore new horizons and no one leaves without discovering something outside their normal comfort zone, including of the artists themselves”.
Peel Slowly And See, held on three stages on Friday and then on seven on Saturday across multiple venues within walking distance of each other, brings together the best of (mostly) European left-wing music from electronica, avant garde jazz and folk, noise . and blunt punk rock, ethnic roots music and all kinds of experimental goodness. Last year's event featured performances from Pip Blom, KOIKOI and SIKSA among others, while previous editions have hosted memorable performances from Shortparis, Altın Gün, Personal Trainer and Tramhaus alongside dozens of others.
While we're not getting too far ahead, it's probably fair to say that Under the Radar are particularly excited to see Dutch punk legends The Ex celebrate 45 years of existence by playing a set made entirely of brand new material on Saturday, especially for the Peel Slowly And See . Formed in 1979 out of Amsterdam's then-burgeoning squat scene, The Ex released seventeen studio albums and have since inspired a generation of musicians and artists.
Likewise, we're also very excited to see Czech Republic-based trio sinkers, whose incendiary take on noise-infused post-punk has been making waves across the EU circuit in recent years. Representing the USA is highly respected multi-instrumentalist and composer Peter Broderick, who has earned a reputation for creating music that transcends any genre, be it dance, classical or cinematic settings. Elsewhere, Belgian trio Use Knife have become one of the hottest must-sees on the planet thanks to their fusion of Western underground and traditional Arabic musicianship that takes the listener through a multitude of styles and genres.
Friday's schedule includes performances from Rwandan and now Belgium-based experimental pop artist Porcelain ID, Colombian psychedelic folk collective Romperayo and Dutch post-punk veterans Zwardsick whose music has been compared to Pere Ubu, Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits.
tickets are still available for Saturday tickets/” title=””>HERE but friday is sold out.
Here's the full lineup for both days.
