Drake continues to stand by Tory Lanez amid the rapper's attempt to appeal his sentence in the shooting death of Megan Thee Stallion, this time asking for Lanez's freedom.
On Monday, Drake posted a photo of the rapper, who is currently in jail for shooting Meghan in 2020, with the caption, “3 you,” a slang term for “set you free,” with the number 3 symbolizes open handcuffs.
Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August, nearly eight months after pleading guilty to shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the legs. He is expected to appeal the court's verdict at a hearing on Monday.
Drake infamously targeted Megan inside Her loss song “Circo Loco” with the line: “This bitch lie to get shots but she still a stud/She don't even get the joke but she still smile.”
Meghan responded to Drake at the time in a post on social media, writing, “Since then it's cool to joke about women getting shot! You n—like especially RAP N——as YOU ARE LAME! Ready to boycott shoes and clothes, but the dog piles on a black woman, when she says that one of the children of the family molested her.”
In a follow-up tweet, she added: “People are attacking me, you're going to upload it, I'm defending myself now I'm doing too much… every time it never ends and it DIDN'T happen until I came out and said he was shot.”
On August 20, 2020, Meghan claimed that Lanez shot her in the leg after a pool party at Kylie Jenner's house in July. The following October, Lanez was charged with one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and another count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
“I kind of became the bad guy,” Megan said Rolling Stonem in a June 2022 cover interview about the reaction to the shooting. “And I don't know if people don't take it seriously because I look strong. I wonder if it's because of my looks. Is it because I'm not light enough? Am I not white enough? I'm not the shape? The height? Because I'm not petite? Don't I think I deserve to be treated like a woman?'
Drake isn't the first disaffected rapper to point the finger at Meghan and publicly defend Lanez. After Megan dropped her song “Hiss” on Jan. 26, Nicki Minaj has been nonstop talking and posting about Megan, releasing a diss of her own, “Big Foot,” focused entirely on the Houston rapper.
Minaj has claimed multiple times that Megan lied about being shot in the leg by Lanez, saying she “wanted a Rihanna moment so bad,” citing Rihanna as a survivor of domestic violence at the hands of Chris Brown. She also posted pictures of both her legs.
