Annie Clark, the three-time GRAMMY-winning musician better known as the iconoclastic St. Vincent, has confirmed the release date of her seventh full-length studio album: Everyone is born screaming will be delivered on April 26 via Virgin Music/Fiction Records.
St. Vincent's first self-produced album, Everyone is born screaming, is Clark at his most unfiltered. Taking on the mantle of sole producer meant an unprecedented direct-to-tape translation of the sounds that originate in his head, heart and hands:
“There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking a long walk in the woods alone, to discover what your heart is really saying.” Clark says. “It sounds real because it is real.”
Everyone is born screaming It is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible and then move forward; Brought to life with the help of a highly curated group of dream friends: Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke, the album is a pure expression of St Vicente's unique vision.
Exhibit A is 'Broken Man', the first preview of the emotional challenge that constitutes side one of Everyone is born screaming. The song is a sonic monster that shatters preconceived expectations and introduces the album with irrefutable power, one that arrives alongside a video shot in Philadelphia in mid-January by Alex Da Corte, whose visuals complete the album's distinctive aesthetic. The video premiered on MTV Live, mtvU, and Paramount Times Square billboards.
