The post-punk band will open for 1975 this spring
Rising band Been Stellar have announced their debut album, Scream From New York, NYout via new label Dirty Hit on June 14th.
The New York-based band celebrated their album announcement with brutal new single 'Passing Judgement', a steely post-punk track accompanied by a frantic video featuring footage of the band performing live. “Deciding without a home/Deciding without a home/Use the head, abuse the heart/If I see this is how I start,” singer Sam Slocum sings on the chorus.
“We were finishing 'Passing Judgment' in the middle of our first UK tour,” Slocum said in a statement. “By playing a little differently every show, we learned to see the song from different angles. The recording feels live because of this process — there's a chaotic feel to the drums and bass that wouldn't have been there if we hadn't finished writing live. Lyrically I was thinking about why we judge the world around us and how judging someone or something is usually rooted in not being sure of yourself.”
This spring, Been Stellar will open for labelmates 1975 on the European leg of their tour. They will then play a number of festival dates this summer, including Shaky Knees in Georgia as well as Great Escape and Latitude in the UK. Previously, Been Stellar has opened for Fontaines DC, Shame and Interpol.
