Kylie Minogue has been honoured with the Icon award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.
Bebe Rexha presented the Australian pop star with her prize on March 8 – which is also International Women’s Day.
“I have never been in a room like this,” Kylie, 55, told the audience as she accepted her statuette, “a pure and vital celebration of women in music.”
The Padam hitmaker went on to thank everyone who had supported her throughout her career.
“Thank you to anyone and everyone who has been there for me,” an obviously emotional Kylie said. “My team, many of whom are here tonight. Predominantly women thank you so much.”
She added it was often the most challenging parts of life that had taught her the most.
“I know tonight is all about celebrating, but on my way here I thought, ‘I’m gonna give a shout-out’,” she said.
“Those challenges, the lows, the ones with this stuff we’ve got to get through sometimes. I wanted to give a big shout-out to all the terrible times.
“Thank you for teaching us that they are horrendous in the moment, but they happen and it’s how we navigate them and what we do with them.”
