Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic is moving to Philadelphia. (Well, actually the aptly named Freedom Mortgage Pavilion across the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey.)
On Tuesday, event organizers announced that the annual festival — held in Texas since 2010 — will be moving to the Philly area for the first time. Bob Dylan is among the performers at the Independence Day concert.
Rounding out the lineup for the July 4 event are Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and guitarist Celisse.
“I am thrilled to bring the Fourth of July Picnic to Philadelphia for the first time in our storied history,” Nelson said in a press release. “It is an honor to host such an outstanding line-up of talent in the birthplace of our country. We look forward to celebrating Independence Day with you.”
tickets for the event will go on sale Friday at 10am/ET. Citi cardholders will have access to presale tickets between March 26 and 28.
The festival lineup appears to be an extension of Nelson's Outlaw tour, which features all of the July 4th Picnic acts except Morris. This tour kicks off June 21st in Georgia and includes a stop at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. (Billy Strings and John Mellencamp are also on some of the Outlaw shows.)
This is Dylan's third time participating in the annual picnic. It last did so in 2009, which coincidentally was the last time the event was hosted outside of Texas. (He was in South Bend, Indiana, that year.)
Last year's Picnic was held at Austin FC's Q2 Stadium and marked the 50th anniversary of the annual shindig. This year's party will arrive just over a month after Nelson's album release The borderwhich is scheduled to be released on May 31st. The border features 10 songs, four of which were co-written by Nelson and longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon. The rest of the new tracks were written by songwriters Nelson admires, including Shawn Camp, Mike Reid and Bobby Tomberlin.
