And so, the 12th edition of the Envision Festival has come and gone.
A month ago, thousands of like-minded people from around the world gathered deep in the jungles of Costa Rica to indulge in a week-long immersive experience like no other.
Disconnected from modern luxuries, Envision is an opportunity to unplug from everyday life and flow through robust programming of music, education, movement and more in a vibrant community, to help you reconnect with your natural essence.
And what better place to connect with your most natural self than to immerse yourself in nature itself?
2024 was the second edition of the festival after its expansion to a full week, and it seems to be going well. By adding extra days at the beginning, attendees have plenty of time to acclimate and integrate into the experience.
Plus, the gift of time ensures there is more flow throughout the week. You can choose to participate in daytime workshops and yoga classes for the first half, for example, and then gradually transition and use your energy on the dance floor as the weekend progresses.
There is no right or wrong way to do the Envision Festival; It's very much a choose-your-own-adventure experience. If you go with the intention of growing and fostering meaningful connections, you may choose to attend more workshops and classes during the day. If you want to listen to sets from all your favorite DJs, chances are you're a creature of the night.
Speaking of which, this year's Envision lineup was arguably some of the best yet with the return of trap luminary TroyBoi, electro-soul tastemaker Daily Bread, and beloved beatsmith The Polish Ambassador, among others .
Notable performances came courtesy of Elderbrook, who delivered an impressive club set; Father Funk, who took the Envisionaries by surprise; Elephant Heart, which thrilled the audience with an energetic show; and a dazzling set from Dreamers Delight. And let's not forget the impressive performance by rising local star La Virgen.
While you can push yourself and do it all, the heat and humidity really take their toll. It's critical to make sure you get enough food, water, and rest every day (or at least every other day), as it's easy to become exhausted.
One thing worth mentioning is how many people had an adverse reaction this year. Although the cause is still unknown, speculation around a contaminated water supply or an outbreak of Norovirus was rampant. For now, it's important to note that while many staff and attendees became ill, most cases cleared up within days.
It's an ongoing challenge to keep up with hydration throughout the festival, as many sweat constantly, even when standing. Trust us, you get used to it.
However, implementing a dedicated 24/7 water supplier would be a welcome addition to Envision in the coming years. There are currently stations on site, but the water comes from the tap, and you can also buy water at the bar, but all the bars close at 2 am
Access to clean, filtered, mineralized water, especially for international travelers, is of utmost importance at a festival like this, where attendees are extremely active throughout the day and night in extremely hot weather.
All in all, the 2024 edition of Envision Festival allowed attendees to feel fully. There seemed to be a consensus that this was an emotionally charged year, a time of healing through feeling the full spectrum of emotions. We laugh. We cry. We were in Costa Rica riding the waves: literal waves, heat waves, and waves of emotions.
Ultimately, Envision was a reminder that how you choose to appear in the world matters. As mentioned last year, “each and every one of us plays a vital role in the well-being of the collective.”
Allowing yourself to surrender to the present moment is a great gift not only to yourself, but also to those around you. Being present in the now gives you space to move through life with ease, rather than rushing or repressing its unpleasant aspects.
