Lil Nas X teases his upcoming Nazareth 2 mixtape for several months via snippets and song previews from its follow-up to early 2018 Nazareth film-cassette. On Wednesday (April 10), he posted a full new song to SoundCloud, “Right There,” an Ojivolta-produced heater in which Montero drops fast-paced verses over angelic, gospel-like female backing vocals.
“Hol' up, lil' b–ch, what you need? What do you need?/ I need an an–ga with loose hips/ I need a model with big, fake lips/ I just did X on the bathroom counter/ On a B-list star, take my A-list lap / I'm JK like I'm next to LM/ I'm so drunk my shit's falling, hey, hey/ Throw me some Henny,” he raps over the track over a stripped-down beat he first previewed on an Instagram Story in February — before deleting it — and then again in a tweet.
Later in the song, he reaches into his self-referential bag once more, saying, “Big Nas, come get this job/ Montero, these hoes gonna flirt/ Lost and found, I can't find my shirt / Montero just popped that Perk/ This feels like God in the church/ This scripture is a bible verse/ Open it up bus and do it/ Open it up and make it squish.”
The full track was released a day after the MCs 25th birthday and a month after X previewed another unreleased song with typically provocative lyrics. “My big sis just had another baby, she blew it off her lips/ My other nephew was sitting in class with a broken nephew, he had to beat a– some ass for talking about his uncle,” he raps on the uncredited track. “Now listen, I ain't say I forgive this sh–/ F— this, I say I forgive this sh–,” Nas X raps.
X has been candid about his struggle to choose songs over his fear of fans' perception of his music, previously writing on Instagram: “I've been saving music for years, I hate my relationship with the fear that my songs don't the perception is also good. I wish I could just put out music and not give af.” At the same time he threw out a handful of quotes to fans to gauge their reaction and possibly guide his choice.
