With its sincere songwriting, Andromedik's new EP, Raiseproves that drum & bass can be both a party starter and a canvas for complex emotions.
The project comes amid a meteoric rise that most DJs can only dream of. Last summer, the Belgian producer became the first drum & bass artist in five years to perform at Tomorrowland's legendary Mainstage, following in Netsky's footsteps. He's now set to perform his own take on the Tomorrowland stage, “Andromedik Invites”, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival's iconic brand.
Out now via Liquicity Records, Raise is a changing display of Andromedik's versatility. One moment you're hurtling down the rails of a teeth-rattling festival anthem, and the next you're floating weightlessly through an emotional, melodic reverie.
The EP begins with its title track, which detonates with soulful bass and dizzying drums. But he quickly changes gears on the contemplative “Stay,” where Idle Days' aching vocals vibrate across blissful synths to create a surreal moment of detachment, like sinking into a warm bath after a long night.
Andromedik finds an exciting middle ground on “Comedown,” joining forces with pioneering drum & bass producer Grafix to balance the genre's raw physicality with brilliant pop hooks that penetrate deep into your subconscious. The same goes for the EP's cathartic closer, “Paradise,” where Luka's ethereal vocals rise above a rumbling bassline like a lone voice at the top of a roller coaster.
