Taylor Swift has revealed a surprise double album version of The Tortured Poets Department.
“It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album” Swift announced on social media. “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”
In totality, The Tortured Poets Department now spans 31 songs and a runtime exceeding two hours in length.
Whereas the first half of The Tortured Poets Department is largely produced by Jack Antonoff, the surprise second half is mostly helmed by Aaron Dessner of The National. Dessner has worked on a majority of Swift’s most recent releases, but his most significant contributions came on her 2020 LPs, folklore and evermore. At first listen, the second half of TTPD is more sonically in line with those albums as opposed to the Antonoff-helmed Midnights.
