Dave Wakeling from The English Beat stops by Kyle Meredith with… to talk about the Record Store Day reissue of the band's second album, What's happening? Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
After a fun conversation about his favorite types of tea, the '80s legend delves into how he still connects with the dire warnings contained in the songs even 40 years after originally singing them, as well as how the progressive themes have aged. While undoubtedly political, he also talks about housing those ideas in catchy, danceable songs.

As he and host Kyle Meredith chat about the difference between the '80s and today, playing with Vampire Weekend at The Hollywood Bowl and their new material on the road, the conversation turns to the state of the live music industry. When it comes to high ticket prices, Wakeling is as confused as everyone else.
“I don't know how they get away with it. I don't know how fans don't feel aggrieved, really. I've always been the other way around. I kept ticket prices low,” she explains. “We've never really skimped. And I look at the price of the tickets and I think, 'No one's going to buy that… Oh, it's sold out!'”
