Emma Stone has been credited for helping good pal Taylor Swift with a song on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. According to People, Swift called on Stone for the new track “Florida!!!”
However, it’s unclear what role Stone played in creating the song, as she is not currently listed in the songwriting or producing credits. Listen to the track below.
“Florida!!!” features Florence + the Machine and is about “what happens when your life doesn’t fit, or your choices you’ve made catch up to you,” Swift told iHeartRadio about creating the song. She added that the track refers to times when “you’re surrounded by these harsh consequences and judgment, and circumstances did not lead you to where you thought you’d be and you just want to escape from everything you’ve ever known.”
Swift also took inspiration from being a fan of Dateline and noticing people who commit crimes “immediately skip town and go to” Florida. The artist continued, “I think when you go through a heartbreak, there’s a part of you that thinks: I want a new name, I want a new life, I don’t want anyone to know where I’ve been or know me at all.”
Earlier this year, Stone spoke on The Graham Norton Show about becoming friends with Swift, remembering how they met at the 2008 Young Hollywood Awards. “We just kept in touch ever since and became great friends,” the actor said.
Their longtime friendship has served as fodder for speculation that Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) vault track “When Emma Falls in Love” was written about Stone. When asked about the song by Entertainment Tonight, the actor said, “You have to ask [Taylor]!”
Swift is about to return to the road for the UK/European (get tickets here) and second North American leg (grab your seats here) of “The Eras Tour.”
