Sour Widows Share Video For New Eight Minute Song 'Staring Into Heaven/Shining'

Bay Area trio Sour Widows release their debut album, Revival of a friend, out June 28 via Exploding In Sound. Now they've shared their latest single, the over eight-minute long “Staring Into Heaven/Shining,” via a music video. It is the track that closes the album. The band's Susanna Thomson said the following about the song in a press release: “After my mum passed away at the end of June 2021, I went on a trip in August of that year in an attempt to put physical distance between myself and the pain of it which I had just experienced. I looked for relief where I thought I could find it. ultimately, this journey taught me that grief cannot be overcome. 'Staring Into Heaven/Shining' is a confessional song, written at a time when I was desperate to gain control of my life through ideas I had about grieving the 'right' way. As I tried and failed to reconcile the feelings of sadness and unanswered questions, it became clearer to me that all I can do is choose to simply notice the experience of sadness. The lyrics are well thought out, but they come to their natural end in a place without analysis. Once I finished the song, I realized that there might be hope in accepting that there are things we cannot know about death.”
The band previously shared the album's first single, “Keep.”
