Copywrite is a 45-year-old MC from Columbus, Ohio best known as a member of MHz Legacy and formerly of The Weathermen. His solo debut in 2001 The High Exhaulted became an underground classic, but returned at the end of the new decade The Life & Times of Peter Nelson. His 3rd album god save the king it's always been my 2nd favorite since its debut, after this one The land of murder Surock production and Blood, Bath & Beyond. C just dropped his 2nd EP The High Exhaulted II two years ago, which is far superior to that Sonic: The Renaissance And I argued that going into his 6th full length LP.
“2nd Coming” kicks off with some instrumentals, kicks and snares, so Copywrite gets into the fray lyrically, while the bluesy boom bap hybrid “Bad Motherfucker” speaks of being destined to be legendary. “Vibe Injection” finds himself going through the reef one minute and then through the speakers the next with kicks, snares and strings, until the DJ Mighty Mi-produced “Weight 4 It” soulfully admits he's sick of low-end . that shit like the space bar.
Swab kills it with the sampling and cuts throughout “Spanish Mambo” likening themselves to the group as latter-day warriors, but then “Sinatra” featuring Breeze Brewin' brings the pair together by stripping the drums over from a Frank Sinatra sample appropriately. quite paying tribute to the Chairman of the Board himself. “Diamond Bukowski” with Bless Picasso, Nino Is & Rush Cash it has that dirty jazz flip that brings it hardcore just before “Mixtapes in My Sleep” with Mickey Factz is a dusty tribute to DJs.
“Green Screen” brings the album to a close delivering 3 minutes of pure venom with Evidence behind the boards, while “Jeah 2” is the follow up to a top track from the Eastern Conference Records collection Eastern Conference All-Stars III. “God Particle” talks about the air over an eerie sample, while the jazzy “Iris” takes its senses. “Turning the Page” featuring Slug concludes the LP lamenting the lost and the pain that comes with it.
From what I understand DJ Mighty Mi will be fully producing a new EP for C later in the year and The last supper continues the trajectory that The High Exhaulted II headed for two years ago. Definitely one of the best full-lengths Copywrite has had to offer so far. It's denser, on par with his last EP, not too heavy on the full-length department, and Cwrite's rekindled passion continues to reveal itself.
