Jennifer Hudson and Orville Peck are among some of the top honorees for the East Coast gala 2024 GLAAD Media Awardswhich honors the best LGBTQ representation in media, arts and culture.
This year marks the 35th annual awards show for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and continues to be the largest LGBTQ awards show in the world. As in previous years, the awards are presented to two teams in two separate ceremonies, the first of which took place on March 14 in Beverly Hills, California and was hosted by Wayne Brady. Media personality Ross Mathews is set to host the second ceremony on May 11, which will be available to stream online via Hulu.
The recent Los Angeles gala featured honorees such as Oprah Winfrey, who received the Vanguard Award for her “decade of commitment to the alliance,” and Niecy Nash-Betts, who received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, celebrating those who fight against homophobia and discrimination in the entertainment industry. There were also performances from Hudson (her new single “Talk About Love”) and Chlöewho debuted her recently released song 'FYS' live for the first time.

2024 GLAAD Media Awards: Host and Nominees
For the East Coast ceremony, Hudson and Peck join a roster of new honorees that includes Marren Morris, Judith Light, Ava DuVernay, Patti LaBelle, Debra Messing, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Barbra Walters, Diane Sawyer and more. The Drew Barrymore Show co-host and RuPaul's Drag Race Judge Ross Mathews will emcee the gala, which will take place on May 11 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City.
Hudson is being honored with an award for media excellence as an ally who has “made a significant difference in advancing the acceptance of LGBTQ people.” This includes The Jennifer Hudson Showwhich is nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode for “Jennifer Hudson Surprises HIV Activist with $10,000.”
Country artist Peck will receive the Vito Russo Award, which is given to an “LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in accelerating LGBTQ acceptance.” Previous honorees have included Wilson Cruz, Billy Porter, Anderson Cooper, Ricky Martin, Andy Cohen, RuPaul, Cynthia Nixon, Samira Wiley and George Takei and many more.
