Cardi B came and took hip-hop by storm with her single “Bodak Yellow,” followed by the Grammy-winning Breach of privacy debut next year in 2018.
The Bronx native believes her success had a butterfly effect and changed the way labels viewed female rappers, leading to many more of them being signed in hopes that artists would follow in her footsteps and repeat the success her to some extent.
“These record companies didn't believe in bringing new rap artists back,” he said. album-motherhood-offset-marriage-1235018536/” target=”_blank”>Rolling rock as part of her cover which arrived on Thursday (May 16). “People from every record company have f–king told me that to my face. They started signing new female rappers after I signed.”
Cardi isn't too interested in the debate over whether the women who get signed have a chance to become all-time greats, but she believes they should be appreciated for making hit records that fill fans' playlists every day.
“If some b-ches could be the best rappers [or] they just make good music — at the end of the king's day, guess what? It's on your playlist right now,” he continued.
While she insists on inspiring other female rappers to break into the industry more easily, there are still plenty of questions surrounding Cardi B's sophomore album.
After tweeting and deleting that there would be no such LP in 2024, the rapper's reps confirmed to Rolling rock that an album was still in the plans for this year.
When the magazine caught up with Cardi in March, she was hard at work hoping to complete the set. “Being out here is my punishment,” he said of the studio. “Until I have the album ready, I'm not going home.”
Breach of privacy arrived in April 2018 and considered the project on its sixth anniversary last month. “6 years ago I released my first album and it broke so many records GAH LEE!!” she wrote “6 years later I'm getting ready to put the next one on this year.. it's so different to what everyone expects and I'm so excited.”
EEA debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, and according to the RIAA, every song on the album is at least certified platinum.
