Cassie's lawyers were masterful in their reaction to the release of video of Diddy hitting the singer and his ex-girlfriend in 2016. After Diddy apologized on Sunday (May 19), the now happily married singer's legal team issued a statement that blasts the tycoon's already derided mea culpa.
Via Instagram, Diddy posted a video apology that was widely criticized as insincere and never mentioned Cassie by name. “It's so hard to reflect on the darkest moments in your life, but sometimes you have to,” Diddy said. “They beat me up. I mean I hit rock bottom, but I can't make excuses. My behavior in this video is inexcusable.”
He also added, “I went and sought professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I'm very sorry, but I'm committed to becoming a better person every day.”
Cassie's lawyer wasn't feeling Didi's words.
“Combs' latest statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Meredith Firetog, of Wigdor LLP, who represented Cassie Ventura in her settlement, said in a statement shortly after Combs posted his apology.
“When Cassie and several other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested his victims were looking for payment,” Firetog continued.
The post the lawyer is referring to is from late 2023 and is still on Diddy's Instagram account. “Heinous accusations have been made against me by people looking for a quick payout,” he wrote in the post, dated December 6, 2023. “Let me be absolutely clear: I did none of the awful things they claim. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”
Well, that's clearly not the case.
Firetog added: “That he only had to 'apologize' when his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”
Cassie's husband, Alex Fine, also brought the tobacco. “Men who hit women are not men. The men who enable and protect these people are not men. As men, violence against women should not be inevitable. Check your siblings, friends and family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers and wives need to feel protected and loved. Hold the women in your life in the highest respect,” Finn said in an Instagram post.
Also, Diddy's old quarters at Revolt—he stepped down as president last year—washed their hands of him.
