Guitarist Dave Navarro returned to play with Jane's Addiction at London's Bush Hall on Thursday (May 23), marking his return to the stage after a long battle with COVID that kept him sidelined for a few years.
In 2022, original bassist Eric Avery rejoined the legendary alternative rock band after more than a decade away, but Navarro's absence prevented a reunion of Jane's Addiction's classic lineup. Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer had held the position for the past two years.
On Thursday night, Navarro, Avery, singer Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins played their first show together since 2010.
In addition to Navarro's return, the concert featured the debut of a new song called “Imminent Redemption.” The band also played “True Love,” another new song they unveiled at a concert last year.
The rest of the set was filled with classics like “Stop!”, “Been Caught Steeling,” “Ocean Size,” and “Mountain Song,” the latter of which ranked No. 3 on ConsequenceList of the 50 best bass lines of all time. The performance began with “Kettle Whistle,” a song they had not performed with Navarro since 2001.
Jane's Addiction posted a video of the start of the set on Instagram, with the simple caption “We're back.” The clip captures Navarro giving his hands in prayer to the crowd to thank her for her return.
The London show began a UK/Europe tour which will last until the beginning of July (tickets available here). Jane's Addiction will return to the United States in late September for the South Star Music Festival in Huntsville, Alabama, and the Evolution Festival in St. Louis, Missouri.
