“It's fun to release something new on Solid Sound,” said Jeff Tweedy. “This year we're releasing an EP with a summer after dark feel. It starts out quite warm, like daytime heat, has some instruments that are a bit choppy and uncomfortable, and ends with a cool breeze. There are pieces Hot Sun Cool Shroud that are more aggressive and angular than anything we've put out in a while, and a love song that melts you like ice cream in a puddle of sugar soup. All the pieces of summer, including cicadas.”
The Solid Sound 2024 lineup includes Wilco, Wednesday, Ratboys, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Soul Glo, Water From Your Eyes, Iris DeMent and more. Along with these musical performances, Solid Sound will also feature live performance by Hrishikesh Hirway. The song Exploder podcast, John Hodgman's Comedy Cabaret, live painting by Steve Keene and pop-up interviews.
In support of their 2023 album, Cousin, Wilco will be touring this summer, with Leah Senior, Cut Worms and Katie Cruel opening select dates. The band also recently shared a cover of David Bowie's “Space Oddity” in honor of the late artist's 77th birthday.
