Last week, Sean Kingston was arrested in California and signed papers invoking his right to fight extradition to Florida. On Sunday, he was booked into the Broward County Jail, according to the Associated Press. Both the singer and his mother are accused of defrauding his home state of more than $1 million. Kingston was taken into custody on May 23 after performing at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California's Mojave Desert. His mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, was arrested the same day when the Fort Lauderdale mansion she is renting was raided by Broward County sheriff's deputies and the Davie Police SWAT team.
According NBC Newswarrants state that between October and March, the couple allegedly stole nearly $500,000 in jewelry, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank and $86,000 from custom bed manufacturer.
The singer is already serving a two-year suspended sentence for dealing in stolen property, and his mother, according to federal court records, pleaded guilty in 2006 to bank fraud for stealing more than $160,000 and served nearly 1.5 years in prison.
Kingston, who was born Kisean Anderson, posted a message on his Instagram Story saying: “People love negative energy! I'm fine, so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The twins' lawyer Robert Rosenblatt, in the past expressed confidence in news agenciessaying, “We look forward to dealing with them [charges] in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Sean and his mother.”
