Dance headliner Illenium took to X to respond to fans grilling him online for using artificial intelligence to design a flyer for his upcoming four-date run at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
On Monday, Illenium announced four dates in San Francisco, July 19-20 and July 26-27. Several fans suspected that the artwork for the show's poster was created using artificial intelligence and took to Twitter to grill the dance star. The image depicts a man, believed to be Illenium, wearing a backwards San Francisco Giants hat while standing in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge and looking out at the city skyline.
Fans were quick to call out the poster, calling it ugly and complaining that Illenium had to pay a real artist for artwork instead of using AI.
Earlier Tuesday (June 4), Illenium agreed with the AI claims, writing to X, “Hey guys, I hear all your comments about the sf art. My mgmt worked with (and paid) a designer on a few options. Our team had also created an ai version to help with the capture. My mgmt ended up using ai art because they are stupid and have no taste. However, we continued to work with designers to create the final result. We now understand that some elements were sloppy and we missed them. New artwork is coming.”
Several fans grilled Illenium for his response, with user @chieflaser writing, “Blaming it on your management like you don't have the final say? Tough look, while @LikRRaider mocked the fan outcry, writing, “Why are you reminding people on the internet? It's really not that big of a deal. Pay people for the time they find designs, but if you find something you like better, stick with it. People, if you want your art to be used, then you should probably get better at it.”
Fellow dance star John Summit also weighed in, writing in responses: “mgmt dunk flyers lmfaoooo if we had our way it would just be date and location with ticket link via notes app.”
