Jon Bon Jovi played a major role in helping break up Skid Row in the '80s, and now he's urging Lzzy Hale to stay on as the veteran rock band's permanent singer.
Dave “The Snake” Sabo of Skid Row was a friend of Jon's since childhood in New Jersey and was very briefly the first guitarist for the band Bon Jovi before the arrival of Richie Sambora. Jon eventually helped Skid Row get their first record deal.
In a video segment with rock sound, Jon received questions from other rock stars. One of the questions came from Lzzy Hale. Before the host relayed the Halestorm leader’s question, Jon exclaimed, “You should join Skid Row. Please, Lzzy Hale, join Skid Row. Bring the two bands together, if necessary. But this is the best thing that's happened to Snake since he met me. [Laughs].”
The rock legend then responded to Lzzy's question about how to keep the magic alive in all phases of a band's career, replying: “You have to be a fan first. You always have to want to try hard. Every day I wake up and try to write a better song.”
Lzzy recently headlined Skid Row for a series of shows following the departure of singer Erik Grönwall, who left the band earlier this year due to health issues. His performances with the band were received with excellent reviews.
After those shows, Lzzy reflected on the experience in a social media post, expressing gratitude and letting fans know that her commitments to Halestorm won't keep her from Skid Row.
“This experience of diving deep into Skid Row has given me a unique opportunity to deepen my love for these men I call friends,” he wrote. “And the soul-bonding moments we created together musically will live with me forever. …Although this particular time in my life prevents me from committing to a permanent role on Skid Row…I am sending my official request out to the universe so that we can join forces again in the future.”
After seeing Jon Bon Jovi’s comments, Lzzy took to social media again and wrote, “What a compliment, what an honor, and what tremendous advice! Thank you for your kind words and candor @jonbonjovi.”
So far, Skid Row has not named a new permanent singer. Classical frontman Sebastian Bach has thrown his hat in the ring on numerous occasions, even saying there is a “good chance” of a reunion if he can fix an unspecified miscommunication with his former band.
For now, fans can catch Lzzy Hale when Halestorm kicks off a North American co-headlining tour with I Prevail in early July. collect tickets here.
