“I'm just so angry because she didn't deserve this, she didn't ask for this,” the rapper said during his deposition Thursday.
Rapper Bun B took the stand during a hearing in Houston on Thursday, giving emotional testimony detailing the armed home invasion he and his wife Queenie experienced in their home five years ago.
In a video captured by Houston's ABC 13, Bunn, whose real name is Bernard James Freeman, fought back tears as he told the court that he and his wife still suffer from the incident. “There are times when he shuts down, he can't communicate,” Freeman said. “I'm just really angry again, because she didn't deserve this, she didn't ask for it.”
The defendant, DeMonte Jackson, a 25-year-old who pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, committed the break-in in April 2019. Jackson held a gun to Queenie's head during the home invasion, ABC 13 reported. After asking for valuables, Queenie told Jackson to take the car to the garage. Freeman shot Jackson in the garage and he fled the scene and was later taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.
Freeman recalled his wife's reaction the day after the break-in during Jackson's sentencing testimony, telling the court the trauma made it difficult for them to be in their home.
“The next morning, she got out of bed and went down to the kitchen and I heard her screaming. I went down to see what was wrong and she had her back turned. He was crying,” Freeman said. I was like, “What's going on?” and she was shaking furiously. He was like, “I can't look at these stairs.” At that point we realized he couldn't be in this house anymore.”
According to ABC 13, it took several years for the case to go to trial because of Jackson's alleged mental health issues.
“We wanted to make sure he was completely competent before the hearing,” said defense attorney Letitia Quinones.
