Nicki Minaj has been keeping busy since the release of her latest album, Pink Friday 2but he made a quick stop at Andy Cohen Watch What Happens Live for Thursday's (Dec. 14) episode to talk about one of her biggest personal influences, as well as what Barbz can expect from the world tour for her new record.
“I don't think people realize how much the song or singers like Whitney [influenced me]. Whitney's first album, I know it inside out,” he told Cohen about the late singer. “I was such a young kid, but I was with my aunt all the time at the weekends and we'd play it on the actual record player, and it was one of the funnest parts of my childhood, so I have a real connection to it. And Diana Ross because my mum always played Diana and The Supremes at home too.'
Minaj is in good company with Houston. With this summer's “Barbie World,” the Queens native's 23rd Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, she tied Whitney Houston for sixth overall by a female in the chart's history. During the 41-year-old's 2022 Video Vanguard acceptance speech, she wished Houston was still alive and that “people took mental health seriously.”

“I've done three world tours so far, so my fans know the material, so my focus on this tour will definitely be the new album, creating a world of that album and sprinkling everything else around it,” he explained. “But of course we will continue to have fun with our twists and turns as we always do. I always make sure to perform my rap, my pop, like, everybody enjoying themselves. I make sure my fans feel good on the show.”
The Pink Friday 2 World Tour will kick off on March 1st in Oakland, California and will make stops across the United States and Europe before wrapping up on June 7th in Berlin.
