A scene reminiscent of a movie SPEED starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock dropped in Atlanta and also had a twist that even Tyler Perry wouldn't think of for one of his movies.
It has been detected TMZan Atlanta city bus was hijacked by a crook, holding the driver at gunpoint and holding passengers hostage, leading ATL police on a high-speed chase that left one person dead.
Thanks to aerial footage, onlookers were locked in as law enforcement chased the bus as it wound through Atlanta traffic, smashing civilian vehicles, including police officers, in a chase that continued for miles on Tuesday.
The suspect, Joseph Grier, a convicted felon with 19 previous arrests, ordered the bus driver, Ernst Antoine, who had only been on the job for three months, to drive off after he shot and killed a passenger.
Speaking exclusively to ABC's Good Morning AmericaAntoine said he was “ready to die” for the bus passengers and felt his handling of the situation “was right because people always come first”.
When the police finally got the bus to stop, the hostages ran for safety and the suspect was immediately arrested, but that part didn't go so smoothly.
Talking to me PEOPLEa passenger revealed that Grier “threw his gun and tried to disguise himself as one of the victims.”
When Antoine got off the bus, police mistook him for the suspect he revealed before pointing officers in the right direction.
“When I go out, the police point the gun at me. I said, “No, I'm not the killer. I'm the driver.” And they asked me, “Who is the killer?” I say, 'Him,' said Antoine GMA.
This bus hijacking is the most powerful thing in Atlanta
Hijacking just gets more interesting. Not long after the incident, an interview surfaced of Grier speaking to reporters after a shooting at the Peachtree Center left four people shot.
In the interview, Grier discussed what he saw in the shooting before later boarding the bus and fighting with another passenger.
Another bus passenger with a gun tried to stop the fight, prompting Grier to steal the gun and shoot and kill the person trying to break up the fight.
As for the reasoning behind his behavior, Grier, 39, claims he has bipolar disorder and has been off his medication for weeks.
We'll see how that goes.
