“I'm as obsessed with her as anyone,” Carpenter said Rolling rock this week
We love it when queens support queens. On Tuesday, Sabrina Carpenter visited the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of “Good Luck, Babe” by her Island Records partner Chappell Roan. The hit took off at the same time as her own track, 'Espresso', became the song of the summer.
In the video, Carpenter performed a stripped-down version of Roan's track, adding a country twang to her delivery of the catchy lyrics: “You can say it's just the way you are/Make up a new excuse, another stupid reason.”
The new cover comes just a day after Carpenter spoke out Rolling rock and revealed that she had Roan's hit “loopty loop” and plays her music “all the time”.
“I've become as obsessed with her as anyone,” Carpenter said of Roan in a profile. “It's so weird when you're hanging out as two young women as opposed to thinking about when she goes on stage and it's this person and when I go on stage.”
Carpenter also performed her own track “Please Please Please” during the BBC Radio 1 segment. (Just last month, Wallows delivered a cover of Carpenter's “Espresso” at the same Live Lounge.)
The pop singer is preparing to release her album Short n' Sweet — the follow-up to her breakthrough LP, Email I can't send — at the end of August. The upcoming album's two hit singles topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
“I hope they find what they need to guide them in their lives through my mistakes,” Carpenter said. Rolling rock for the album music. “Because I think the more open I am about my experiences, the more other people say, 'Oh, maybe it's okay that this happened to me. It's not the end of the world.”
