The years that followed An alleged rift between Brandy and Monica, the “So Gone” singer said reuniting on “The Boy Is Mine” with Ariana Grande helped the R&B powerhouse close some gaps in their relationship.

Brandy and Monica's 1998 original “The Boy Is Mine” spent 13 weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 after its release. The pair reunited this year to work with Grande on the pop singer's song of the same name.
“I've always said that singing shouldn't be touched, right? And I said that because I felt like I didn't need to redo it with the idea of, let's say, actually doing it the way it was,” Monica told ET. “But Ariana and Max Martin — as soon as I heard that version, I fell in love with it.”
About Grande, Monica said she was “amazed” by Grande's humility and compassion. “It all came straight from her chest and, for me, authenticity, humility, that's all key,” Monica explained.
Grande shared her excitement about the collaboration in an Instagram post ahead of its release, writing “It's almost impossible to say how much this means to me. This is to celebrate both of you and the impact you have had on every singer, voice producer, musician, artist creating today.”
