“I love songwriters and singers like Sia who are so passionate and you can tell she lived the song,” Clarkson said of Sia in 2015.
Kelly Clarkson redefines a Sia classic with her own rocky, vocal style. On Tuesday, Clarkson performed “Bird Set Free” during the Kellyoke segment The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Dressed in a black and white bodysuit, Clarkson opened the song backed by soft piano before joining My Band Y'all in his powerful performance This Is Acting dance floor.
“But there's a scream inside that we all try to hide/We hold on so tight, we can't deny/It's eating us alive, oh it's eating us alive, oh,” she sang, her voice rising with every word.
It's not the first time Clarkson has covered a Sia song. She made her huge success “Chandelier” from 1000 Forms of Fear four years ago and “Breathe Me” from Sia's 2004 album Color the Little in 2021.
Sia wrote two of Clarkson's songs: “Let Your Tears Fall” and “Invincible” from her 2015 album Piece by piece. (“Invincible” even features Sia's backing vocals.)
“I love songwriters and singers like Sia who are so passionate and you can tell she lived the song,” Clarkson said. he said Spin Magazine in 2015. “I love that, because there's nothing worse than hearing a song sung by someone who has obviously never had their heart broken or been wronged or been so in love that you can't help it.”
“There's nothing worse than hearing a singer who doesn't translate. Sia epitomizes this. She's so passionate and intense and she writes these big songs, and I do love big songs, so it worked like magic,” he added.
