Camila Cabello releases her fourth studio album, C, XOXOon Friday (June 28), and the project features a number of stellar collaborations, including “Hot Uptown” with Drake and a track featuring the rapper on his own called “Uuugly.”
Cabello talked about working with Drizzy in a new interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, noting that it all started in the DMs. “I feel like, at least from what I know about myself, I feel like we're musically aligned in a lot of ways,” she said of herself and Drake. “I think we have a lot of the same taste, but also lyrically. I actually went into his DMs as well and was like, 'I've been listening to you so much about this album,' a lot of my words and bar ambition.”
The pop star revealed that Drake has been following her since “Havana” came out in 2018. “I DMed him and then I played him my album and he got in touch. I sent the idea for 'Hot Uptown' and wrote the part. I sent it back to him and we cut it to him as a duet. Then when he reworked his parts, he gave me an outro that was the 'UUUgly part,'” he recalls.
He continued, “It's a twofer because he didn't really need to give me an outro, but for me, it's like I don't want to listen to a song like 'Hot Uptown' and then leave it at that one minute. where he says his—, so we decided to make it another song.”
Cabello and Drake made headlines in December when they were spotted chatting on a boat while vacationing with friends in Turks and Caicos. “It was a vacation and a little bit of work,” Cabello said of the trip to Alex Cooper in the latter She called her dad podcast in March.
