Tyla had everyone jumping out of their seats during her performance of “Jump” with Gunna and Skillibeng at the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday night (June 30).
Four women cleverly painted as different parts of a tiger sprawled on the floor of a cage, wagging its “tail” (a woman's painted hand) before Skillibeng opened the show with the memorable “Original gyal, you are no replica (No)” . Introduction. Tyla descended the stage on a rope swing and boldly stepped into the cage before singing her viral line “They never had a pretty girl from Joburg. See me now, and that's it prefurrr.”
Gunna delivered his verse next to an elephant statue before Skilli re-entered the stage while being escorted by men on stilts with Tyla dancing underneath.
After canceling her first world tour and Coachella appearance earlier this year due to injury, Tyla has landed a few shows including Spotify Beach at Cannes Lions and Afro Nation Portugal earlier this month. “Jump” is the latest single from her self-titled debut album, which was released in March via FAX and Epic Records. It is currently at No. 19 on Rhythmic Airplay and No. 3 on US Afrobeats Songs (chart dated June 29).
Nominated for four awards, Tyla has already picked up two tonight for Best New Artist and Best International Actress. It also earned a Viewer's Choice Award nod for Billboard Hot 100 No. 7 smash 'Water' and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. Gunna is also nominated for three awards: best male hip-hop artist, album of the year with A gift and a curse and Viewers' Choice Award with 'Fukumean'.
