“I even told the producers, 'I'm fine. I can go home now,” Mraz says on the podcast
Who wants to dancing with the stars when you can hug a cat? Jason Mraz asked himself that question last year as he climbed the leaderboard week after week in his 32nd season dancing with the Starsaccording to an interview he gave to Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's on Me podcast. Each week he succeeded, his terror grew to the point where he begged his friends and the show's producers to bring him home to his cat.
The thought of missing his cat was still so upsetting that when he thought about it while talking to Ferguson, he choked out a 50-word sentence. “Two or three weeks into it, I realized I'm probably going to be here the whole time, and I'm terrified and I have to cancel all my plans for the rest of the year, and I miss my cat terribly, and I start telling my friends, “Stop voting for me,” he said, breathlessly. “The only way I can get off the show is if I don't have enough votes. I even told the producers, “I'm fine. I can go home now. Thank you very much for the honor.' They said, “There's nothing we can do about you being here.”
But at the end of each episode he was doing better and better until a solution came to him. “The only thing I could do is ask friends to vote for someone else,” he said.
But the vote-fixing didn't work and Mraz, who recently released a single called “I Feel Like Dancing,” made it all the way. Match me Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, but both lost to actress Xochitl Gomez. “Having made it all the way to the buzzer, I look back and laugh and think, 'Well, maybe if I'd done some shit…' So I'd do it again if I could,” he said. “I would try really hard.”
Despite Mraz's kitty, his own Instagram feed has no pinned photos of his kitty. There is one of dancing with the StarsNevertheless.
