It's been a few weeks since it was revealed that the judge overseeing Young Thug's RICO trial, Judge Ural Glanville, had an “inappropriate” meeting with both prosecutors and the main witness in the trial, after Young Thugs' attorney, Brian Steele brought the allegation to light.
While Thug's lawyer Brian Steele was fined and sentenced to 20 days in jail for refusing to name the source of his information he “shouldn't have received,” Judge Glanville rejected requests to recuse himself from the case over the act of (is Judge Ural Glanville related to Clarence Thomas or something, just asking?). Now according to USA TodayGlanville decided to somewhat comply with the motion by sending it to another judge to decide whether or not he should recuse himself from the case.
Until the situation is resolved, the RICO trial will be put on hold, and luckily for Thug's attorney, Brian Steele, he won't have to report to jail over the weekend, as the Georgia Supreme Court made an emergency bail application and granted him to avoid unjust punishment.
Per USA Today:
The liquidation legal case, which has been ongoing since the rapper was indicted in May 2022, has been put on hold after Judge Ural Glanville in Fulton County, Georgia, was accused of misconduct, according to The New York Times and the BBC. On Monday, the judge agreed to send a motion to recuse himself from the trial to another judge to weigh, and that the trial would remain on hold until then, media reported.
Thug's defense attorneys claimed the judge had an “inappropriate” meeting with prosecutors and a key witness. Glanville has turned down several offers of relief in recent weeks. Jurors have not heard arguments for two weeks, the Times reported.
The judge said he would release a record of the meeting, according to media reports.
A judge meeting with both the prosecutors and the lead witness without the defense attorney's knowledge really seems about as dark as it gets. That said we are surprised that there is a transcript of the meeting, but who's to say that it will be an accurate record of their meeting? I am just saying.'
