Faye Webster wants to move on, but she really can't. On Monday night the musician visited Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform her intimate track 'But Not Kiss', in which she had previously described Rolling rock as an “anti-romantic” love song.
“I hope you're okay, but I won't ask/If you're in a good place, I won't mess with it,” the indie star sang, backed by soft piano and guitar strums. “But I'm here when you need me, always helping/Yeah, yeah.”
Webster was introduced by Kathryn Hahn, who is currently filling in for Jimmy Kimmel as host of the evening show.
“But Not Kiss” is one of the standouts from her album Overdressed in the Agreement, which fell in March. He recalled writing “But Not Kiss,” Undressedhis first single, in an interview for Rolling rockFuture of Music issue earlier this year: “I remember writing it and saying, 'I wish this song had been written for me. I wish I didn't have to write it,” he said at the time. “I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I said it myself.”
The album's quirky title was inspired by Webster's own trips to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to help her heal a breakup. “I found it therapeutic,” she said Rolling rock. “No one knows me, I don't know anyone. I don't know what I'm listening to half the time. When I was really having a hard time, I'd say, “Oh, is there a show tonight?” ”
Among the other pieces in the Undressed are 'Thinking About You', 'Feeling Good Today' and 'Lego Ring' featuring Lil Yachty. Webster is currently on tour and is scheduled to appear next on July 22nd in Richmond, VA before heading to DC, Philly and Boston. She will wrap up her Denver shows in early October.
