Much like the giant butterflies fluttering around Michael Bibi, a metamorphosis took place over the weekend in London, where the DJ headlined the largest electronic show in the city's history.
The rare cancer that once threatened to clip her wings has given Bibi a new purpose, as she broke records at Finsbury Park on Saturday night by drawing more than 45,000 attendees. The momentous performance in her hometown kicked off her “One Life” celebration tour after a brutal six-month battle with central nervous system lymphoma.
“I'm still in the process of recovery,” Bibi said. Billboard Before the show: “I'm only doing a very, very, very, very limited number of shows and I make sure they're as good as they can be.”
Mission accomplished. As lights danced and bodies swayed, Bibi unfurled a deliriously exuberant celebration of life snatched from the jaws of mortality. Huge LED screens projected painful images of those dark days in the hospital, as well as video montages that included flashbacks to the DJ’s childhood with his father, who eventually joined him on stage for a dramatic guitar solo.
The night was a living confirmation that even in the darkest of hours, the human spirit can emerge, not just intact, but radiant and ready to move the masses. See below for 10 photos from Bibi's historic concert.
