Saturday night live Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost continued their annual tradition of “swapping jokes” as part of SNLChristmas episode. Inexplicably it was cut last year To the dismay of fans, the joke exchange sees Che and Jost exchange jokes they've written about the other that neither of them have seen before they go on air. As you might guess, jokes are often created to shock each other — along with audience members. And this year was no exception.
The joke exchange fell flat as Che immediately started the segment by introducing a surprise special guest. “There's someone very special here who was last in this Season 3, 46 years ago,” Che said. “Poet, writer and activist. Please welcome Dr. Hattie Davis.” Sources like Newsweek have since confirmed that “Dr. Davis” is, in fact, a fictional character played by an actor. But that didn't seem to stop Che from successfully pulling the wool over Jost's eyes. (And judging by Twitter, plenty of viewers loved it, too.) Jost seemed to be shaking in his boots as he delivered a series of offensive jokes written by Che, even meekly about a punch that Dr. Davis declined.
Among the forbidden (often highly unpleasant) subjects, Jost's wife, Scarlett Johansson, even came under fire — with Jost forced to judge that New York's newly permitted sale of alcohol in movie theaters would help him tolerate the “little art films' by Johansson. “
