Selena Gomez finally has a Primetime Emmy nomination in an acting category and it couldn't be sweeter. That's why the 31-year-old star is celebrating the news with a cake while writing Instagram stories On Wednesday (July 17) she couldn't be more thankful for the recognition.
After being informed that she had received a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead in a Comedy Series — thanks to her performance as Mabel Mora in Only murders in the building — Gomez shared a photo of herself smiling in front of a cake that reads, “Congratulations Emmy Nomination!” in pink icing.
“I'm honored and insanely grateful for this,” she wrote. “Thank you @onlymurdershulu for giving me Mabel.”
The Rare Beauty founder also shared a joint post on her feed with actor Steve Martin, who also received a starring nod, as did actor Martin Short. “A repost in a more professional way… We are excited about our nominations,” h Pink Panther the actor captioned a photo of the trio.
Gomez's nomination comes after three years as the star of the Hulu murder-mystery series and two years spent in the acting categories at the Emmys. In 2022, Martin — who has been nominated twice for lead role in a comedy — said The New York Times that he and Short, who is in his third acting nomination for the show, “were pissed that Selena wasn't nominated because she's really so important to our shows.”
Only Murders it has also been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series three years in a row, a credit to Gomez's role as executive producer. The “Lose You to Love Me” singer's boyfriend, producer Benny Blanco, accompanied her to the 2024 ceremony in January. On Thursday, he showed his support for his girlfriend by simply retweeting news of her nomination for star on his Instagram Story.
Gomez's latest feat also comes shortly after her and her Emilia Perez The actresses — Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Adriana Paz — won best actress at the Cannes Film festival.
