Travis Scott's Cactus Jack Foundation hosted an emergency Hurricane Beryl relief drive in Missouri City, Texas on Tuesday (July 176) to help the thousands of Texans still struggling in the wake of the devastation left behind by Hurricane Beryl on last week.
According to a statement announcing the effort in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, the foundation distributed water, frozen food and other essential items to residents of Texas communities affected by the storm that killed eight and caused severe flooding and widespread outages. power outages that affected more than three million Texans.
Basic aid was distributed on a first-come, first-served basis through a transport system, with items distributed to more than 2,000 local families. In conjunction with the move, the Cactus Jack Foundation also partnered with disaster response organization Houston Responds to launch an emergency hotel grant fund to provide temporary housing for displaced Houstonians still without power following the July 8 storm in Texas as a category 1 hurricane.
The emergency aid being distributed by Scott, along with his mother, brother and sister will help families shelter in local hotels as temperatures continue to hover in the low 90s across the state. Applications for housing vouchers are now open, with applicants encouraged to sign up here. The release notes that eligibility for the housing program is based on need and includes income limitation and proof of disaster displacement to ensure the most vulnerable residents receive assistance as soon as possible.
