Singer-songwriter K. Michelle has signed to BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, home to artists including Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson and Jason Aldean, the label announced today (July 29).
Originally from Tennessee, Michelle grew up absorbing the music of artists from Whitney Houston to The Judds. She has released six albums so far, including her 2013 debut Revolutionary Soul and of 2016 More issues than fashionboth reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. By 2023 I'm the problem announced as her final R&B project, Michelle began the process of releasing her debut country album and showcasing the full extent of her musical artistry. She then released songs like “Tennessee” and introduced her alter-ego, Puddin.
Michelle's signing to BBR/BMG Nashville comes as several Black Country artists continue to reach new career heights. Most notably, Shaboozey's “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” recently peaked Advertising signis the country radio-focused Country Airplay chart that has logged multiple weeks at the top Advertising signon the Hot 100 across all genres, and also topped the charts on many radio formats. Shaboozey was one of the country artists who appeared in Beyoncé's country influence Cowboy Carter project, which also heralded Black country music pioneers including Linda Martell, as well as up-and-coming Black country artists Willie Jones, Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell and Tiera Kennedy. Beyoncé's “Texas Hold 'Em” dominated the Hot Country Songs chart for 10 weeks.
K. Michelle recently appeared on the project Tribute to the Judds last year, singing the Judds' signature 'Love Can Build a Bridge' with Jelly Roll and the Fisk Jubilee Singers. They also performed the song live at the 57th Annual CMA Awards in November. Last month, Michelle also appeared at CMA Fest for the second time, making her Nissan Stadium debut as well as performing on the Chevy Vibes Stage.
