Justin Timberlake made a brief appearance via Zoom in New York's Sag Harbor on Friday morning (August 2), where a rep for the singer confirmed that Advertising sign that he pleaded not guilty in connection with his June DWI arrest.
According CNN, Timberlake, 43, watched the trial virtually and spoke twice during the hearing, answering “yes” to questions from Sag Harbor Village Judge Carl Irace. The procedural hearing reportedly included Irace admonishing Timberlake's attorney, Edward Burke, for comments he made outside the courtroom to the media, encouraging the attorney to be careful when speaking to the press in the future.
During a hearing last month, Burke disputed the claim that Timberlake was drunk and said his client should never have been arrested, saying “the police made a number of very significant mistakes in this case.” CNN reported that Burke once again maintained that the singer was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest during his appearance on Friday morning.
Timberlake was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor on June 17 and arraigned the next day on one count of “driving while intoxicated.” According to a Sag Harbor PD statement at the time, JT was observed “operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a properly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel.” A police report filed by the arresting officer added: “The accused was found to be operating the vehicle in question in an intoxicated state as his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath, he could not to divide attention, had slurred speech, was unsteady and did not perform well on all standardized field sobriety tests.'
Officer Michael Arkinson noted that the 10-time Grammy winner told him during the arrest, “I had a martini and followed my friends home.” Burke issued a statement two days later promising to “vigorously” defend the pop star, whose Tennessee driver's license had been suspended in New York state. Burke said it's standard procedure in DWI cases.
Timberlake is not required to attend the next hearing in the case on Aug. 9, a representative for Burke said Advertising sign the attorney had no further comment at press time. The singer is currently on the European leg of his Forget Tomorrow world tour, with the first of two shows at Antwerp's Sportpaleis scheduled for Saturday night (August 3).
