Mport translates comedy into dubstep gold with his new EP, Testing a wide variety of beloved movies and shows ranging from Kill Tony to Sponge Bob Square Pants to family-favorite Pixar movies like Finding Nemo.
“This longer EP is based on sampling some of my favourite scenes and media,” explains Mport. “Everything I used had me laughing out loud to tears at some point, personally, so I wanted to add my production touch to them. Plus, it makes for some great live visuals.”
The voices of beloved cartoon characters SpongeBob and Patrick can be heard on “Wumbology” early in the EP, their distinctive relationship strategically splitting and joining together over a head-bobbing beat. Meanwhile, “Hot Rod (Cool Beans)” samples two scenes from the film. Bolidewith Mport's personal addition of an experimental bass and woodwind section. Dodgeball and Beavis and Butthead Join in the hilarity on “The 5 D’s” and “Whoa Fire,” respectively.
While other tracks remain heavy with wobbly bass, “Pixar Party” comes across as an intriguing house music track, with its beat over the familiar creaky bounce of the old Pixar lamp. Listeners can hear snippets of their favorite Pixar films, such as History of the toy, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc. and more.
Selection of scenes It is not the only time that Mport has used comic means for musical purposes. Fans who attended their April 2024 show at the Bluebird Theatre in Denver I saw it integrate into their tracks and visuals. Adventure time and the viral YouTube web series Potter's puppet friendsamong other titles.
