The TikTok star/musician will release her first solo single of 2024 this Friday
Addison Rae may be trying to supplant espresso as the drink of summer 2024 with her new song, “Diet Pepsi,” which is set to arrive this Friday, Aug. 9.
Rae officially announced the single Monday and shared the cover art after teasing the song — her first for Columbia Records — on social media over the past week. Last Wednesday, she leaned into double entendre with the X post, “I don’t do coke. I much prefer Diet Pepsi!” And the following day, she shared a short video on Instagram of her writing “Diet Pepsi” on the fogged-up window of a car.
“Diet Pepsi” will be Rae’s first solo song of 2024, though earlier this year, she teamed with Charli XCX and A.G. Cook for a remix of Charli’s Brat single “Von Dutch.” Last year, Rae — who rose to prominence as a dancer and influencer on TikTok — officially launched her pop girl era with AR, a short EP that featured songs originally slated for a scrapped project known as “the lost album.”
The EP featured a first collaboration with Charli XCX, “2 Die 4,” as well as the full versions of previously-teased songs, “Nothing On (But the Radio),” “I Got It Bad,” and “It Couldn’t Been U.” Rae’s proper debut single, “Obsessed,” first released in 2021, was tacked on a special bonus cut to the Spotify edition of the EP.
Along with music, Rae has been dabbling more in acting. Last year, she appeared in Eli Roth’s holiday slasher flick Thanksgiving, and she’s part of the voice cast for the upcoming live-action/animated film Animal Friends, which is set to hit theaters in 2025.
