Lil Yachty's song with Drake, “Super Soak,” continues to stir controversy.
First, Soulja Boy took issue with some of Drake's lyrics that mentioned his record label Stacks on Deck. Then during a podcast appearance Flagrant by Andrew Schulz with Akaash Singh in late July, Yachty revealed why he sent the song to streamer Kai Cenat in the first place.
“I sent a song to Kai to leak. We couldn't clear the sample so I let Kai play it,” he said. When asked why the sample was not cleared, Boat said the social media personality “followed a Christian path.”
The social media personality he is referring to is Mr. Hotspot. That's him mostly active on Instagram, and his posts are generally of him dancing and telling people to smile. He will also do songs like “Smiling well like” and the song Yachty and Drake sampled “Oh my god.”
Over the weekend, Mr. Hotspot took to IG Live to give his fans his side of the situation, saying he's open to clearing the sample if they do a clean version of the song. “We recorded a clean report for them and sent it to them, so hopefully they'll re-record the clean report and we'll come out with the clean 'Goodness Gracious' overall,” he said. “Well I said it's a process, but it's … it's going to be good for both of their brands like that, and I'm blessed to work with guys, so we just have to get them clean.”
He added, “We don't need any kids getting screwed over because they said this or that, you know? And if you look at the back, it's the kids who actually have these views. So if we make sure that both verses are clean, everyone will clean, everyone will benefit for sure. It's a process, but thank you for your patience. We sent it, they got it today and the boys will show up. We're not trying to hold them back from anything, but we just need the right manners, that's all.”
That wasn't the only drama Yachty found himself in.
During the same podcast interview, he also mentioned that Drake wasn't “happy” after his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar, which naturally became a topic of discussion on social media. But, that's not all. A few weeks ago, he went viral saying that people from New York couldn't dress up when he had Cash Cobain on his podcast. A safe place.
“Everybody used to copy Atlanta. You said it yourself,” Boat told the Bronx rapper. “You just said the influence was extremely heavy from Atlanta. … In terms of style, I don't think it happens when it comes to New York fashion.”
That, too, caused a stir on social media, which brings us to what the rapper had to say on Thursday (August 1). Yachty to do Instagram Live and announced that he was going to keep quiet henceforth. “I'm not talking anymore,” Yachty said. “I have nothing more to say. I'm off this internet. I think I'll be gone for the rest of the year. I swear to God. I do not have anything else to say.
He added, “Contract to do this podcast s—t, unfortunately it's contracted, but I won't post any more hs—t. I don't post any pacts. I delete the apps from my phone. I swear to God… I don't tweet, I care about my work for the king.”
