At the time it was the dream of most athletes to own a signature sneaker from the Swoosh brand, Nike, but recently it seems adidas has been stealing a lot of their thunder. Now, an Olympic Gold Medalist seems to prefer the three stripes to a swoosh if he can have it his way.
According Nice kicks, Noah Lyles let the world know that he wanted his own adidas signature shoe right after taking the gold medal in the Paris Olympics 100m sprint. Edging out Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by just tenths of a second in a pair of spikes on adidas' Y-3 track, the new fastest man in the world expressed his desire for a signature three-stripe sneaker in a post-race interview .
Nice kicks References:
“I want my own coach,” he said. “Seriously… I want a sneaker. There is no money in spikes. There's money in sneakers.”
If adidas made the Lyles a signature shoe, it would enter the history books once again, this time in the world of athletic shoes with the legendary Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix as the only American sprinter in the shoe.
Johnson, who released the Nike Air Zoom JST in 1998 after the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and Felix, who left Nike to start her own footwear brand Saysh, set enough of a lead for the Three Stripes to match in demand by fans and athletes who aspire to perform at the highest level.
adidas would be foolish to miss this opportunity. Not only did the man win it, but he directly stated that he wants adidas over any other brand as his home. Not many athletes would say that.
