Tetris Kelly:
Kehlani is being accused of belonging to a cult by her ex, who is seeking full custody of their daughter. In court documents filed on July 24 and obtained by BillboardKehlani's former partner Javaughn Young-White has filed for full legal custody of their 5-year-old daughter. Young-White claims he has tried to get his daughter back in the past, but was allegedly “physically restrained and threatened” by members of what he called a cult.
In the filing, she claims that Kehlani “has been involved in this cult for the past several years and it appears that this cult controls her actions and behavior, including in regards to the upbringing of our daughter.” Young-White, whose name does not appear on her daughter’s birth certificate, claims that “everyone else has more say than I do when it comes to the upbringing of our daughter,” and said she has requested a copy of both the girl’s birth certificate and social security number, both to no avail.
He ended the presentation by saying: “I am not here to belittle [Kehlani]However, the environment she has created for herself is not the kind of environment a child should live in and therefore I turn to the mercy and wisdom of the Court to save my daughter before it is too late.”
Kehlani has yet to publicly respond to the allegations in Young-White's custody petition. Billboard has contacted the singer's and her ex-partner's representatives for comment.
