Ariana Grande has a complicated relationship with hot sauce and some of her old songs, but she nailed both in the latest episode of Hot.
Appearing on the show's season finale on Thursday (August 8), the pop star began by asking host Sean Evans for the expert's opinion. “Where do you think I sit on the scale from DJ Khaled to Lorde?” asked. “I'm doing my homework.”
Grande continued to break a sweat as she ate the spicy vegan wings, aside from a silent burp here and there. She kept her cool even as the Scoville levels climbed, but at one point she admitted, “I think I'm learning that I don't like hot sauce.”
The Grammy winner also answered questions about her new album with the Billboard 200, Eternal sunshineworking with Max Martin and doing stunts on his set Bad movies, the first of which comes in November. “There was a lot of bubbly singing, which was really high, and I wasn't being roped in – I was kind of there,” she revealed. “I've had a lot of singing stunts, but nothing compares to Cynthia Erivo.”
“Seeing Cynthia on her harness with a broom, a hat, a wig, a corset, a dress — the whole thing — flipping, flying around the set, singing 'Defying Gravity' every time like it's nothing … just the most amazing thing i have. I've ever seen,” continued Grande, who plays Glinda opposite Erivo's Elphaba. “We got to do some really crazy and beautiful things for this movie.”
The “We Can't Be Friends” singer went on to talk about the “frustrating and disappointing” experience of having her unreleased music leaked online. “It sucks,” he said plainly. “And I'm constantly trying to get to the bottom of how people take things… which is very frustrating and feels very dehumanizing, and then the other side is like, but I'm so grateful that I'm an artist that people care about. The fans want more of me, so they go to these extremes to steal and invade.”
Towards the end of the episode, Evans asked Grande if she's tired of performing any of her old songs. The Victorious The alum has been releasing music for more than a decade at this point, with nine of her songs reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since her debut. Sincerely yours, fell in 2013.
“That's a natural thing that all artists can relate to,” he replied. “There was a time when it was hard for me to feel the same gratitude that I do now for certain songs and for music… to be a pop star is crazy at 19 or 20 and I think that experience was kind of married to some of the songs a little. Or some of the songs that are more emotional, the experience that inspired them can be married with the music. But with time and therapy, we're kind of able to hug each other again, so I feel very proud and grateful and happy when I hear them, where, like before, I might have heard it and cried.”
