“The music just happened one day. It was so exciting to have found this beat,” Gilmour recalled in a statement. “Polly had given me a beautiful poem for our wedding anniversary, which was on the desk next to me, so I took it and sang it on the track, to hear what it would sound like with words. I played it to Polly and she said, ‘Beautiful, great, I’ll have to play around with it. ’ So she added a couple of verses and there it was, very serendipitous.”
In a recent interview, Gilmour described Luck and Strange as the “best album I've made” since Pink Floyd's 1973 classic, The dark side of the moonHer first full-length album in nearly a decade is out September 6 and includes previous singles “Between Two Points” and “The Piper's Call.” The deluxe edition with bonus tracks and exclusive photography is available for pre-order at vinyl and CD right now.
Gilmour will promote the album with a limited tour across the US, Europe and the UK beginning in late September. Buy your tickets here.
