Today (August 20) marks the upcoming launch of the Gunna x BMAC Guaranteed Income Program 30349. The $500,000 Gunna-backed initiative – a new alliance between Gunna's Great Giveaway and the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) – will provide a monthly grant $1000 to 30 families living in the 30349 zip code of South Fulton, Georgia.
Applications for the Gunna x BMAC Guaranteed Income Scheme 30349, which officially starts on September 18, are now available HERE. In a release announcing the initiative, the program's stated goal is to “give families a guaranteed monthly income through cash directly in their hands for a year and, most importantly, provide support services ranging from financial empowerment to mental health ». Gunna and BMAC will work with South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau and community organizations serving South Fulton to identify recipients.
“As mayor of South Fulton, I am deeply committed to advancing economic opportunity and uplifting our community,” Kamau said in the release. “The partnership between Gunna, BMAC and the City of South Fulton represents a transformative step in addressing the economic disparities faced by some of our residents. The Gunna x BMAC 30349 Guaranteed Income Program is not just an investment in the future of our city, but a powerful example of how we can create meaningful change through collaboration and innovation. I am proud to support this initiative and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on families in our community.”
Four Grammy Award-nominated and multi-platinum rap icon Gunna, who grew up in South Fulton, added, “When I launched Gunna's Great Giveaway, my goal was to uplift my city by providing resources that could make a tangible difference to at least one household. . Partnering with BMAC to bring the Guaranteed Income program to South Fulton is an important step toward strengthening these communities and transforming the city's economic landscape.”
The new program is the latest addition to Gunna's other ongoing community initiatives. These include Gunna's Drip Closet, a free clothing store within the school, and the Goodr Grocery Store at McNair Middle School, through which students have access to free essentials. Once the Guaranteed Income program is launched, BMAC will also help guide grant recipients through its network of music, film, fashion and technology.
“BMAC's mission to achieve systemic equity must begin with economic justice,” said BMAC Co-Founder/President and CEO Willie 'Prophet' Stigers. “Black Americans are too often excluded from critical opportunities and pathways to climb the socioeconomic ladder, despite being central to every cultural and economic movement in this country's history. Working with Gunna to provide much needed financial relief and, more importantly, mentoring and other services that lead to sustainable change is very powerful. Our organization will continue to work with artists and others who want to put justice into action so that our community can reach its full potential.”
Gunna and Stiggers will be showcasing the Gunna x BMAC 30349 Guaranteed Income Program during the BMAC Gala in Los Angeles on September 19th, with the festivities continuing on September 29th in celebration of Gunna Day (the official date of which is the 16th September). Announced earlier this month, the fourth annual BMAC Gala will pay tribute to LL COOL J and Usher, among other honorees.
