Better Me Than You was originally scheduled for release on August 9
Big Sean has announced a new release date for his upcoming album Better Me Than You in an emotional video shared on social media on Friday. The LP, previously scheduled for release on August 9th, will now drop on August 30th.
“The album drops this week,” said Finally Famous rapper during an Instagram Live. “I appreciate my mom being this guardian angel who always gives me that advice. He really spoke to me about it. Like I said, I haven't slept much. I was giving it all away. I'm burned to hell. I'm tired. I do this shit for the people who fuck me.”
Sean also encouraged his fans to check out his Soundcloud, where he may be releasing more songs. “One album is not enough, really. It's so much music. Special things that can't be cleaned or whatever — it's like screw it, here we go.”
After a Kanye West fan reportedly leaked much of his album online last month, Big Sean announced his new LP the next day and dropped the single, “Yes.”
“The pressure of life (being a new dad, being [an] growing artist, being a person in progress, etc) and embracing it all led me to a lot of clarity about what I needed to focus on to find a shred of happiness,” Sean wrote to X before the album announcement. “The last few years making this album has been a journey to say the least, but I'm glad we're finally here.”
Better Me Than You will be Sean's first full-length solo album since 2020 Detroit 2. He also released a collaboration project with Hit-Boy, What are you waiting for?in 2021, and worked with Eminem and Jessie Reyez earlier this year, releasing the single “Precision” in March.
