As Bulletin board it was reported today that Morgan Wallen is the first artist in 46 years to land a season-ending No.1 Bulletin boardThe Song of the Summer chart over the years. The country superstar achieves the feat as Post Malone's 'I Had Some Help', which he appears on, takes the crown for 2024, a year after Wallen took it with his solo smash 'Last Night'.
The only previous artist to have Song of the Summer in recent years was Andy Gibb, who scored in 1977 with “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” and 1978 with “Shadow Dancing.”
Wallen is also the first artist to win Song of the Summer once as a main artist and once as a featured artist.
And Wallen is the only country artist to have Song of the Summer twice. John Denver had Song of the Summer in 1974 with his ballad “Annie's Song,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and reached No. 9 on Hot Country Songs. Billy Ray Cyrus scored 2019 as the featured artist on Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road,” which topped the Hot 100 for a record 19 weeks.
Gibb, the younger brother of the Bee Gees, had a hard time getting out of their shadow. Although he had three consecutive No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 — both of his Songs of the Summer singles plus the single that came between them, “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water” — many gave most of the credit to hit songs to Barry Gibb, who wrote (or co-wrote) and co-produced all three hits. Andy co-wrote “Thicker Than Water” and “Shadow Dancing”, but that wasn't enough to counter the impression that he was riding on his brothers' coattails. Tragically, Andy, who struggled with drug addiction and depression, died in 1988, five days after his 30th birthday.
